The Colin Welsh Trophy for the “unsung hero” of sport 2025

Alan has been with the Jersey Rugby Club for 20 years mostly as Colts Team Manager. Alan is first to arrive at training ensuring that the coaches have all the kit and equipment they need for that evening’s session. He also manages communications, so everybody knew where and when they had to be. His annual motivational speeches at the start of every season were legendary and left nobody in any doubt as to how players were expected to behave, both on and off the pitch. However, even the most difficult message is always delivered calmly and with good humour. Alan quite simply puts the team first in everything he does. Injuries do sometimes occur in rugby and on several occasions he has volunteered to be the one to accompany an injured player to hospital for treatment, even though he knew it probably meant missing the flight home and disrupting his own plans or commitments.
