Jersey Hockey Mens’ Over 35s will host famous English Club Southgate in the England Hockey O35 Cup
Although Jersey Hockey has previously entered teams into various age group England Hockey competitions, this is the first time Jersey has entered a team into the Men’s Over 35s Cup. Last Season Jersey’s Men’s first team went to the final of the England Hockey Trophy and the final played immediately afterwards was the Over 35s Trophy final. It was realised that a number of Jersey’s first team squad would qualify for this competition and in fact 10/15 of the squad playing this weekend were involved in Jersey’s first team squad last season.
The competition format itself is interesting with winners progressing in the Cup (Tier 1). Teams suffering defeat in Round 1 or 2 continue in the Trophy (tier 2). Teams defeated in Round 1 and 2 will then play in the Vase (Tier 3). Southgate is one of England’s elite clubs and their first team plays in the Southern Division 1 after being relegated from the Premier Division last season. They should be one of the toughest teams in the draw.

Previously the Jersey Men’s 1st XI played a Southgate side in the EH Trophy competition so there may be familiar faces on both teams
