Jersey Petanque compete in Europe in October and November

JPA Euro 1

JPA Euro 4
The Jersey Petanque Association will be sending teams to represent the Island in two European events in October and November.

From 8th to 11th October, the European Women’s Triples Championships will take place in Loutraki, Greece. The JPA team is Trevor Holden (Manager) Gary Cowburn (coach) with players : Wendy Ritzema, Katrina Holden, Nicky Maindonald and Jean Stewart.

Jersey first sent a Women’s team to compete in the European championships in 2010 in Ghent, Belgium and then again in 2016 and 2018.  Wendy Ritzema will be in the team for the third time. Team mates Katrina Holden and Jean Stewart have not  played in this competition before, but have European experience having previously competed in the Eurocup. Nicky Maindonald had her first taste of European competition in the Mixed competition in Spain in June where she did very well.

Included in the event is an individual ‘precision shooting’ competition. This is very tough and nerve wracking and Wendy Ritzema will be Jersey’s representative.
In November 5th to 8th the Liberation Club will represent Jersey in the Eurocup which they qualified for by winning the inter club league. This takes place in Sin-le-Noble in France. The Liberation Club will announce their team in due course.
This competition includes singles, doubles and triples and each team must have a minimum of two of each gender in the squad.
The Liberation club have finished in bronze medal position in the past two years so will be hoping to go at least one better this year. The picture attached gives an idea of their progress last year.
