Manifesto for Sport – Candidates’ Commitments

Manifesto for Sport Candidates Commitments

The Jersey Sports Council published its “Manifesto for Sport” on Monday 27th April once all Candidates for the 2026 Election had been announced.  The full “Manifesto” can be found on our earlier post.

All Candidates were invited to review the “Manifesto for Sport” and complete and return a “Candidate’s Commitment” answering “Y” (yes), “N” (no) or “A” (abstain) to 20 proposals/comments/suggestions.

Attached to this post is a spreadsheet recording how Candidates have replied so far, and a separate report of their comments.   We will update both sheets over the coming weeks.  Some Candidates have provided comments without completing the “Candidate’s Commitment”.

Following advice received from some Candidates we recognise that there is some ambiguity regarding Q3 which refers to  ”  supporting the continuation of a dedicated Minister for Sport “.    Over the years there have been various States Members whom we and others have referred to as the “Minister for Sport” whilst that responsibility has been undertaken as an “Assistant Minister”.  Concern was raised that we were advocating that the role should actually have “Ministerial” status with all the incumbent trappings of that office.  That could be a discussion to be had, but for the time being we are simply advocating the continuation of the status quo that there be a States Member who has responsibility for “Sport”.   You may therefore see some “A”s for that response!

My apologies if any Candidate has sent me a comment and I have neglected to include it; that would simply be an error on my part, so simply resend it.  Equally, if anyone wants to update or amend their comments, then please resend.
