Michael Rive nominated by Bowls Jersey
JERSEY’S lawn bowls squad enjoyed a highly successful return to the Island Games in Orkney, capturing a full set of medals – gold, silver and bronze. Spearheading the campaign was a commanding gold-medal performance by Michael Rive in the men’s singles, marking Jersey’s first lawn bowls gold at the Games since the sport last featured in 2005.
Rive was near-flawless throughout the week, winning all six of his round-robin matches and conceding just one leg in the process, a remarkable show of consistency and composure. On day one, he registered straight-sets victories over Orkney, Guernsey and Shetland Islands, quickly establishing himself as the player to beat. His dominance continued across the next two days and by the end of the tournament, Rive had won six from six to top the field.
Michael Rive’s precise shot-making and calmness under pressure defined the tournament and set the tone for Jersey’s wider success.
Sam Touzel nominated by JM&LCC
Sam Touzel drove superbly to earn his maiden Protyre Motorsport UK Asphalt Rally Championship victory with co-driver Max Freeman. Riding in his Ford Fiesta Rally2, this was a commanding breakthrough performance, with the Caesarean securing 13 of 16 stage wins to lead from start to finish. Sam is the first driver from Jersey to win a British Asphalt rally.
The rally takes place on Argyll and Bute’s closed public roads with over 66 miles across 16 special stages. Touzel and Freeman set the two fastest times through Dunoon, to gain an early lead of five seconds after the opening two special stages. Another five stages lay ahead on the day, including the dramatic eight-mile Oyster test, under the cover of darkness. They dominated day one to win all seven stages, extending their lead to 24 seconds.
Saturday ramped up the action, with its nine stages of which five were won to ensure a maiden Championship victory.
SPORTS TEAM OF THE YEAR
NOMINEES
Farmers Cricket Club nominated by Jersey Cricket
Farmers Cricket Club won the European Cricket League 2025 (ECL25) in March.
The ECL25 is T10 cricket played over four weeks with 35 teams battling to be the Club team champions of Europe. As winners of our T20 domestic league, Farmers won the right to represent the Jersey against the best club sides from around Europe. Farmers won the first round and progressed to the final round against teams from England, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy and Netherlands.
In the final against Roma CC, Farmers dominated and won by an impressive 42 runs. Standout performances from Julius Sumerauer scoring 35 off 13 balls with the bat, and Will Perchard taking 3 wickets for 20 runs from 2 overs, Scott van Breda also contributing strongly with 2 wickets for 23 runs from his 2 overs. Farmers victorious with 146/8 (10.0), defeating Roma CC 104/9 (10.0) to claim their first-ever ECL title – and demonstrating both the strength of their Club and domestic cricket in Jersey.
The final tournament standings showed the depth in the Farmers team with all-round standout performances – in the batting standings, Zak Tribe (2) & Julius Sumerauer (4) in the top 4 ; 3 bowlers in the top 10 bowling rankings including Will Perchard in the top spot, and the fielding table topped by Zak Tribe.
Jersey Island Games Archery Team – nominated by Jersey Archery Society
The Jersey Archery Team competed at the 2025 International Orkney Island Games with a significantly reduced squad, fielding 8 athletes across both compound and recurve out of a possible 16. Despite these limitations, the team delivered an exceptional level of performance, achieving Jersey Archery’s second-most successful Island Games campaign to date, demonstrating both competitive excellence and remarkable resilience. Across the competition, Jersey Archery finished second in the overall archery medal table, securing an impressive total of 10 medals. This achievement is particularly notable given the smaller squad size and highlights the efficiency, depth, and quality of the team’s performances.
The medal successes included:
- 4 individual medals – 2 Gold and 2 Bronze
- Recurve Team – Silver and Bronze
- Compound Team – Silver and Bronze
- Compound Mixed Team – Silver
- Recurve Mixed Team – Gold
An outstanding feature of this was that every member of the team returned home with at least two medals, reflecting a remarkable level of consistency and contribution across the entire squad. The results were not reliant on a small number of standout performers, but instead demonstrated true team strength, cohesion, and shared excellence.
Jersey Island Games Athletics Team nominated by Spartans Athletics
The Jersey athletics team topped the athletics table, (out of 21 teams), in Orkney with 6 Golds, 6 Silvers and 1 Bronze Medal. The team’s 13 medals accounted for nearly a 20% of all of Jersey’s medals at the Island Games. The team did this with a squad that was smaller than all of the other teams that finished in the top 5.
Jersey won a medal in every athletics session where a medal was available and had representation in every applicable final for the men. Members of the team also won awards for Sportsmanship and embodying the true spirit of the Games.
All 6 of the gold medal winners (Zara Assante, Evan Campbell, Men’s relay teams, Ted Chamberlain) came within inches of breaking their respective Island Games Championship records, making this was one of the all-time best performances by an athletics team at a Games.
Multiple island records were broken in the process, and invitations to compete and further national level and international level competitions followed for many of the team, with the men’s relay team placing 4th at the national relay championships and beating England to finish second at the Manchester International.
Jersey Men’s Island Games Cycling Team

In the individual town criterium Jacob Mauger securing another individual bronze medal.
St Brelade Petanque Inter Parish Team nominated by Jersey Petanque
In 2013, the team first entered the Inter Parish League winning the league in 2022. In 2024 they won by a huge margin remaining unbeaten all season.
In 2025 they won the Inter Parish League again, only being beaten once in the year. In two years and 44 matches only one defeat. The team went on to win the Pétanque Jersey Inter Parish Knockout Cup, and the Pétanque Jersey All Day Competition. ‘The big Triple’, not easily accomplished. To round it off a magnificent season they won the French Festival Inter Parish Cup.
The group of about 20-30 people aged from in their sixties to eighties, mostly with no previous experience but with excellent coaching and regular practising have produced some players who have gone on to represent Jersey off island and in the Home Nations competitions.
Jersey U18 Girls Table Tennis Team – Senior Schools International
nominated by Jersey Table Tennis Association
Hannah Silcock, ranked No. 3 Junior Girl in England among all players competing in Table Tennis England competitions, joined forces with Freya Allaway, the reigning Jersey Women’s Champion, to represent Jersey in the U18 Girls event at the Senior Schools International at Fort Regent at the end of June 2025.
What followed was nothing short of historic. The Jersey team produced a fearless, determined performance, winning every single team match they played. In a series of nerve-shredding encounters, they edged past England A and England B with back-to-back 3–2 victories, swept aside Scotland and Guernsey with emphatic 5–0 wins, battled through a tense 3–2 win over Wales, and capped their campaign with a commanding 4–1 victory against Ireland.
Against the full might of the Home Nations and Ireland, Jersey did not just compete — they dominated. The reward was a gold medal, finished ahead of Wales in silver and England A in bronze, and a performance that will be remembered as the greatest junior achievement Jersey Table Tennis has ever produced at this competition.
Jersey Volleyball Island Ladies nominated by Jersey Volleyball
The Jersey Volleyball Island Ladies have and continue to deliver outstanding seasons worthy of major recognition. Securing league wins since they joined the Hampshire League 2 years ago, they have earned multiple appearances at the SEVA playoffs. Their impressive battle at SEVA in 2025 earned them a joint 3rd position in the South Eastern Region – A testament to their ability to compete consistently at a higher regional level, despite being at the disadvantage of less competitive exposure to mainland teams.
Additionally, their successive Inter-Insular victories against Guernsey highlight not only their competitive strength but also their composure and teamwork under pressure. Beyond results, the team is widely admired for the way they play the game — producing composed, structured and entertaining volleyball built on trust, cohesion and skill. Even with new members joining the team, they transition seamlessly and always show a true display of the sport.
